Hydrated Lime

Hydrated Lime also know as calcium hydroxide is vital to municipalities, as it is used for potable water softening pH, removal of heavy metals and impurities from drinking water. It is used with alum or iron salts for coagulating suspended solids in order to remove turbidity from water. It serves to maintain the proper pH for most satisfactory coagulation conditions. Often alum sludge is treated with hydrated lime to facilitate sludge thickening on pressure filters.
